Yes, it is that time again - All members are encouraged to attend. The meeting will be held at 5:00 p.m. on the 2nd November 2008 at Algester Sports Club. SUMMER SKILLS CLINIC

Footy seasons over but you want to work on your skills in readiness for next year? The Australian Football Summer Skills Clinic runs Saturday mornings 9am-10:30am from 27th September to 28th March at UQ St Lucia. Sessions are $15.00 Weekly after a $10 joining fee. The Summer Skills Clinic is a 22 week summer course held at the University of Queensland gym on Saturday mornings. The clinic is now in its 31st year of operations, and has recently created a website ( http://www.aflsummerskillsclinic.org ) in order to promote the existence of the clinic to the wider football community, and at the same time present some of the rich history of the clinic to a wider audience.

Youth Finals

Congratulations to the U14 Leopards who go straight into the Grand Final after winning their Semi Final against Aspley on Sunday. We all wish you the very best on Grand Final Day (details below). The whole club will be behind you and I'm sure there will be a massive crowd at the game.

Unfortunately the U12 Leopards were defeated in their Semi Final to finish the season 4th on the ladder. Well done guys.

AFLBJ Awards

Congratulations to Michael Kiely (U16 Leopards) and Brenton Meddings (U14 Leopards) who were both invited to the AFLBJ Awards dinner Monday September 1st.
Brenton was Runner Up in the U14 Div 3 count with 21 votes narrowly beaten by a player from Wynnum
Michael was also Runner Up in the U16 count.

Great reward for a great season guys.

U11 Redlands Carnival

Congratulations to the representative U11 team that competed in the recent Redeland Carnival. The Leopards were narrowly defeated by Sherwood in the Grand Final. Great effort guys.

Youth Finals

Both our U12 and U14 teams will play finals in 2008 with the U12 team finishing 4th on the ladder and the U14 team on top of the ladder in the Div 3 competition.  The details of the first finals are below.

JUNIOR TROPHY DAY - Timetable

Junior Trophy Presentation day is being held on Saturday 23 August 2008. A day of fun is planned. Once presentation of trophies has been completed, there will be rides and fun activities for the kids to enjoy not to mention popcorn and snow cones.

10am - U8's
11am - U9's
12pm - U10's
1pm - U11's

Carnival rides are on 11am till 3pm.

GOAL-A-THON 2008

Yes it’s back for 2008! Today at training each player will be given a Goal-a-thon Form. The players will have 2 weeks to get as many sponsors as they can and will be required to return the forms to the club for the week ending the 21st of March. The following week we will have volunteers out with each team getting the players to have twenty shots at goal each. For any player who raises $50 they will receive a specially designed LEOPARDS GUERNSEY.

Drake Supa IGA Parkinson selects Calamvale Leopards

Drake Supa IGA Parkinson has selected Calamvale Leopards JAFC as one of 16 local organizations to share in their community chest program.

Every person who shops at DRAKE SUPA IGA Parkinson will receive a token for every $30 they spend in store. These tokens are placed in the Community Chest boxes near the entrance. At the end of each quarter, Drakes will divide up their Community chest prize pool among the 16 organisations, based on the % of tokens in each community chest box. The more tokens an organization has in their box, the greater share of the prize pool they receive.

Please tell all of your friends, relatives and anyone else of this program, and ask that they support the club whilst shopping at Drake Supa IGA Parkinson. For those who have not shopped there before – you will find range and pricing very competitive, with many excellent specials available every week.

Drake Foodmarkets are sincere about community support – last year they donated in excess of $100,000.00 to community organizations via their community chest program.

Please note - this program is ongoing year round, and will be in place for years to come if our members support it.

Brisbane Lions Adopt a Junior Club Program

I am pleased to announce that Brisbane Lions have launched their Adopt a Junior Club Program, with each club assigned a player ambassador for the season. Calamvale Leopards have been aligned with James Hawksley for 2008 – who wears Aka’s old number 12 Guernsey! (his profile details here – note it is actually his birthday today).

As part of this program, We have;

• - player of the match certificates for every team and every round (includes a free entry to a Lions game with paying Adult).
• - Stickers and Gabba Passports to hand out on sign on day.
• - An incentive to sign op Puma Young Lions members – the club who signs up most members will receive a training session with the Brisbane Lions. AND
• - A 2008 Lions Guernsey signed by James for use in fundraising, etc.

Other benefits to follow include:

• - End of year award for Junior Club Person which includes a Junior Lions Membership and Certificate signed by James.
• - At least two articles written by James for inclusion in our newsletter.

97.3Fm's "Mum and Dad's Weekend Taxi" and "McDonald’s" coming to our sign-on day!

Come down Saturday morning for sign-on day this season where Robin Bailey, Terry and Bob will be live on 97.3Fm!
