A message from U9 Blue Team Manager:

This was my 1st year as a member of Calamvale Leopards & I would just like to say that my son & I have really enjoyed being a part of such a great club filled with so many friendly dedicated people.

I would firstly like to thank Brock our coach for his commitment and weekly dedication to our great team of young players, who have been a pleasure to manage.

To Paul our trainer a big thankyou for your help and assistance every week and for umpiring when needed.

My appreciation to all the mums & dads that have helped out in so many ways from canteen, washing guernseys, goal umpiring, helping at training & most of all making sure your son is at training & games each week.

Thanks to John for time keeping our home games and last but not least a huge thankyou to our club committee for making me feel so welcome & who without their long hours of commitment the smooth running of the club would not be possible.

Hope to see everyone back next year!

Denise.

This week saw the boys at home to Jindalee in a game that went from one end of the field to the other. This weekís captain Lachlan lead from the front and was backed up by Jye, Matt, Jake and Brandon all putting in strong games. Man of the match Kyle put in his best game of the year showing a big improvement in his marking and kicking skills.

A big thank you to Che Carslake and Joel Holley for helping make up the numbers and both played very well. Thank you to all the parents who helped out on Saturday without your help we would have struggled .We have a good group of boys and without your help all year we would not been able to achieve the results we have.

The boys travelled to Kenmore on Saturday to take on an extremely committed outfit with 13 players instead of the full complement of 15. The first quarter started off slowly for our boys once again, who appear to expect a win just for turning up. An injury to Cooper depleting the team even further which finally kicked the boys into top gear.

Young Shamus continues to have a fine season with an outstanding display during the first two quarters with the boys failing to take a clean mark, his work at ground level along with help from Daniel, Jarrod, Morgan and Jake M kept the Leopards in the contest leading into the main break.

After some words of wisdom from Coach Bob the boys started to click as a unit with solid efforts from Patrick, Lachlan, Brendan and Blade in particular who continues to grow in confidence taking the correct option at every available opportunity from the back. Once again Jake F continues to impress with his defensive capabilities with one effort in particular leading to the goal of the day from the team.

The fourth quarter definitely belonged to our little men in both Jarrod and Lucas,  whose no nonsense approach proved the difference between the two teams in the long run.

Our encouragement award this week went to our very own 100% man in Shayne who showed that his skills belong in this team and made both his sets of grandparents very proud on the day. Well done mate, see what happens when you really have a go.

Next week is our last game of the season so it would be great for all the players if all parents made a real effort to attend this game and show their appreciation for all the boyís efforts over the entire season which has really been a team effort by all.

The author would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Dads who helped out on match day in particular Roger, Ross, Steve, Derek and Bob who waved the goals through week in week out along with Murray who kept the goal tally for the season, not forgetting young Carlton who was always willing to offer a helping hand when needed. To both Cathy & Sonia along with the other Mums who helped out in the canteen a big thank you for your efforts we couldn't have got through without your help.

To Coach Bob who has had his critics all season, he stepped up to the mark when coaching this team and deserves all the accolades which may come his way, a great effort mate and you can hold your head high on a fine performance.

Finally to both Berny and Vanessa your efforts have not gone unnoticed, without the work and sacrifice you both give to the club the rest of us wouldn't be able to enjoy each Saturday morning and it's with great pride I reserve the very best THANK-YOU to the both of you from the whole TEAM.

Another fantastic game, and awesome effort from all.  It was a hard fought even match all the way through and you should all be proud of yourselves as we all were on the side line watching.  You have all learnt so much and come ahead leaps and bounds thoughout this season.  Thanks Mick for all of your efforts with the kids, it has really showed in their games and in how they've grown stronger as a team and individuals throughout the year.  As we come up to our last game this weekend, lets go out and have fun, enjoy our last game for the year and if we play as we have been playing we're sure to bring home the gold!!  Goodbye and good luck for the future.

It is not often this year that our games have been won Via our defence but that was certainly the case of Friday night, especially in the first quarter when Aspley applied plenty of pressure. Corey, Ben and Zeb were fantastic with great support from all the other back men. Once we rode the initial onslaught from Aspley our centres started taking control and our crumbing forwards made the most of their opportunities to kick the goals under pressure to ensure the 20 point win.

Forwards you still need to attack the ball more, instead of waiting for the ball you must lead hard and demand the football, once you start doing this I believe our forward line will start working much better. We still have a great deal of work ahead of us coming into the finals, with all the other teams improving at a huge rate of knots, whereas we have been a little up and down as far as improving is concerned.

Boys congratulations on securing the Minor Premiers mantle. This is a great achievement by all of you, but know that is done and the real job over the next few weeks is to play the type of football that will win you the ultimate goal of a premiership flag. Guys do not take this opportunity for granted, just talk to a few people that have played football all their lives I, for one, have never won a flag and you will realise that the goal ahead of you is a rare one and a prized one. Winning a flag this year will make 2008 a very special memory in your lives for many years to come, and all the players that you play with will also be a special part of that memory. So what I am saying guys is its time to put your heads down and your bums up and fulfil all the hard work you have done to date by increasing your work rate both at training and in games. ITíS ALL UP TO YOU NOW.

After a tough week in which the side was struggling to get the numbers to take the field for the last two games, but in the end a few guys and they know who they are put their team mates ahead of the issues they deservedly had and came back and played and for that I thank you very much.

The game against the top team was always going to be tough with 16 players and 2 U/14ís who were hardly used, the boys came out and worked hard in the first quarter showing a great deal of guts and determination to be only 2 goals down at the first break.

The second quarter was magnificent with the Leopards dominating play, with 9 or 10 superb passages of play and 80% of the possession Logan were truly rattled, I have not seen such a great effort from every player of the team all doing the team things it was heartbreaking for the boys that the domination of the ball didnít come on the scoreboard with many easy shots missed that would have seen us 3 or 4 goals up at half time.

As is often the case when chances arenít taken the opposition make you pay and Logan made us pay in the 3Rd quarter with a 5 goals to nil score line, but the great thing to see was that not one player dropped their head, you all kept trying and I truly believe you were unlucky not to come away with a win in this game. You all should be proud of the effort. I know Peter and I were very proud of the way you guys played good clean and at times exciting football well done.

With perhaps one game to go depending on results boys it is important we all make Saturdays game and put in another effort similar to this game and then whatever happens you can all hold you head up.
